Chapter 12
While thinking such thoughts and staring intently at Izzen, a strange question suddenly crossed her mind.
“But why doesn’t Izzen take off his hat even indoors?”
At those words, Izzen’s body gave a big start.
It had already been three days since she started living in this house, but Izzen wore that hat morning, day, evening, and night. His outfit was also always neatly dressed as when they first met, always wearing that stiff magician’s hat-like thing pressed down on his head.
“I-it’s my own form of courtesy.”
When Izzen stammered in reply, Heesu’s eyebrows twitched.
He was flustered. Izzen was noticeably flustered by her casually thrown remark. Seeing someone who was always calm and composed get flustered made Heesu’s curiosity surge even more.
Is there something hidden inside that hat?
Heesu looked at Izzen with suspicious eyes while fiddling with the spoon in her hand.
“People living in the same house don’t need to be so formal with each other……. I’m in pajamas right now too.”
“Even if Miss Heesu is fine with it, I’m not.”
“It’s stuffy for everyone watching. Just take it off.”
“No, absolutely not.”
“It’s fine though…….”
“I’m not fine with it.”
No matter how much Heesu urged him, Izzen was immovable. With an expression that seemed to think: I’m fine, I’m comfortable like this, it doesn’t bother me at all.
But seeing a drop of sweat running down from under his hat, he didn’t seem all that comfortable.
“Here, please have some dessert.”
Just as the meal was ending, Violen, who had cleared the dishes, brought out rabbit-shaped apples neatly arranged on a plate. As he set down the plate and turned around, for a very brief moment, Violen glanced at Izzen and passed by.
At that moment, Heesu frowned. Because in that brief instant, Violen seemed to have made not his usual innocent smile, but a crooked sneer.
But when she looked again, he was smiling with his original innocent expression as if nothing had happened.
Had it been her imagination? But it was still suspicious. Heesu looked back at Izzen with even more suspicious eyes than before.
“Do you happen to be balding, Izzen?”
“What are you talking about right now?”
Izzen replied with a reproachful tone as if dumbfounded. But while looking at his profile that wouldn’t even meet her eyes, the thought that there was definitely something became even more firm.
Should I just rush over and pull it off? Heesu fidgeted with her hands that were naturally getting itchy.
Actually, she hadn’t thought much about it at first, but since Izzen was being so stubborn, she was becoming increasingly genuinely curious about what was inside that hat. Once she became curious, she couldn’t suppress her curiosity at all.
Perhaps feeling Heesu’s gaze looking at him like prey, Izzen, who had been looking only at his newspaper with an expressionless face, sighed.
“You must be very bored, Miss Heesu.”
“No, I’m not? I’m not bored at all?”
“No. You must be bored. Let’s start doing some magical girl training.”
“Training…… what kind?”
Izzen suddenly stood up and headed toward the living room.
“We don’t know what kind of demons you’ll encounter in the future, so let’s do some adaptation training.”
“How…… how?”
“First, you need to experience the lowest difficulty level.”
“Something like mock combat?”
“Well, something like that.”
“Then are we going outside?”
Heesu, who had quickly been drawn in by Izzen again, followed behind him.
Though she had answered that she wasn’t bored earlier, the truth was that Heesu was restless from becoming a magical girl but not being able to do magical girl-like things. For the past three days, all she had done was eat delicious food and live in luxury in a nice house while admiring her magical girl self in the mirror and practicing poses. Well, thanks to that she had been living comfortably.
For such a Heesu, the word “training” was more than enough to make her heart race.
“No. Since it’s a small demon, this will be sufficient.”
“Th-then you’re summoning a demon?”
Could he be drawing a magic circle or something to summon one? Heesu’s heart pounded even more.
“It’s just about time for it to arrive. I can hear footsteps.”
As Izzen headed toward the front door, Heesu stood tensely behind him.
Soon footsteps could be heard from beyond the door, and then the doorbell rang.
“Delivery.”
For a moment, Heesu’s legs swayed.
My god, a demon delivered by courier.
Whether Heesu was bewildered or not, Izzen calmly received a box from the delivery person and closed the door. He placed the box on the table, used a box cutter to remove the tape, and took out a semi-transparent light green liquid wrapped in a large plastic bag from the opened box.
Izzen cut the top part of the plastic with scissors and poured the liquid onto the floor. The liquid that flowed down spread widely on the floor, then eventually began moving as if alive, soon clumping together to form a round shape.
“Huh!”
Heesu, who had been watching with half-belief, drew in a breath. The round thing was bouncing and approaching her. It was an unfamiliar yet somehow familiar form.
Could it be……. Another ominous suspicion crept into Heesu’s mind. As if answering that, Izzen spoke in a calm yet clear tone.
“The basics of adaptation training, the most basic enemy, the lowest difficulty demon. It’s a slime.”
