“May I ask what kind of margin you mean?”

“That man is the Third Prince of the Leonis Empire. If we kill a prince, there will never be a chance for a peace treaty.”

“…A peace treaty?”

“Sir Zion, would you want to send your own children to the battlefield someday?”

This time, Zion was left speechless by Lea’s question. It was something he had never considered before, so he didn’t know how to answer. Lea looked at Calix, Kyle, and then Zion in turn before continuing.

“That’s something even more important for Espers like you, Sir Zion. Not only is it about securing Guides for now, but it’s also a chance for your children to be matched with the Guides they’ll need. I can’t be the only one providing guiding forever. You know that, don’t you?”

Until now, Lea had managed to get by with her own strength, but the Cantabria Empire would need more Guides in the future.

Only then would Bianca be unable to seize power using guiding as a pretext, and the strangely twisted power structure of the imperial palace would be able to return to its proper place.

The Cantabria Empire had to fully become a country governed by the Cantabrian imperial family, not a country swayed by a fox werebeast instead of a human, as it was now.

Lea thought of the Emperor, who had been poisoned by Bianca before her regression. In this life, she hoped the Emperor would not die.

Only then could Calix inherit the throne legitimately. She wanted to make sure that every step he took was illuminated, without a single stain.

As the two spoke, the intense gazes of Calix and Kyle, who had been clashing violently, simultaneously turned toward Lea.

Then, the two of them flew toward her at tremendous speed.

Kyle, fired up with competitiveness, charged toward Lea without hesitation, racing against Calix. Each time he moved, the ground rose and fell in waves.

Kyle used the rising ground as stepping stones to move forward. But he couldn’t be faster than Calix, who rode the wind. So he resorted to tricks, using his earth ability to collapse the ground and bring down the tree Lea was standing on.

“Kyaah!”

Just as Lea screamed atop the falling tree, Zion leapt up and grabbed her. With an incredible jump, he landed on another tree opposite, moving down the trunk before Calix could help.

The way they dropped made it look as if they were falling, and Lea couldn’t help but scream. Calix shot Zion a disapproving look at the sound of her voice.

It wasn’t just Calix. Derek, who had been waiting below, also looked at Zion with dissatisfaction. In the end, Zion became the one who was scolded despite saving Lea.

“…Feels like I’ve committed some great sin.”

At Zion’s muttered complaint, Derek quickly approached and reached out to take Lea from him, replying,

“I’m sure the Commander-in-Chief would have helped soon enough. Didn’t you come down a little recklessly? Do you think Lady Lea is a physical Esper like you?”

“Ah, I didn’t consider that.”

At Derek’s reproach, Zion answered sheepishly, looking down at Lea.

“Were you very startled?”

His face full of concern, Lea couldn’t say that she was, so she gave a vague answer.

“My heart just raced a bit, that’s all.”

“…I’ll be more careful next time.”

“Please hand Lady Lea over to me, Vice Commander.”

“Do you really think your flimsy arms can support Lady Lea?”

“Lady Lea is light, it’s no problem at all.”

“Enough. It’s better for me to carry her than to risk dropping her and putting her in more danger.”

“Vice Commander, you should hurry and help the Commander-in-Chief finish off the remaining enemies. Leave this to me.”

Zion was annoyed by Derek’s words, but couldn’t make any more excuses. As Derek said, the most important thing right now was to wipe out the enemy completely.

While they bickered, Calix was coldly contemplating what to do with Kyle. He’d overheard Lea and Zion’s conversation earlier.

To be honest, he wanted to cleanly separate this man’s head from his body, but Lea’s words made sense. As he pondered, he still concluded that he could not forgive what had been done to Lea.

“Maybe I’ll settle for an arm.”

Muttering in a low voice, Calix moved toward Kyle with blinding speed. Kyle quickly retreated, but Calix was faster.

He seized Kyle’s arm and shoulder and twisted, pulling with force.

“Ugh!”

As searing pain blurred his vision and just before his arm was completely torn off, Kyle hurled a dagger at Calix’s eyes.
