“Finally!”

The noblewoman was overjoyed to hear that the love potion she had requested was ready.

“Now, the days of misery are over, and all that remains is to get a hefty divorce settlement, embarrass him at the party, and then part ways.”

The noblewoman seemed to have suffered greatly while enduring her womanizing husband, as she elegantly wiped her eyes with a fragrant handkerchief while gritting her teeth. Given how much she despised her husband, it seemed necessary to caution her about potential issues that might arise during the potion’s use.

“Do you remember, Madam, when I previously explained that the effects of the love potion would only be temporary?”

“Yes, and?”

The noblewoman’s eyebrows twitched as she seemed ready to leave and use the potion immediately.

“I found that, in practice, if the antidote is not taken, the effects of the potion will continue. In other words, your husband might follow you around even after the divorce.”

The noblewoman’s interest in the fact that it had been tested directly quickly faded. The vague notion of him ‘following’ her seemed too abstract for her to fully grasp. At this point, it was necessary to provide a more detailed and cautious description to prevent her from facing an unfortunate outcome.

“He’ll be as insatiable as if he was under an aphrodisiac, clinging to you like a leech with suction cups, unable to leave you alone for even a second. You’ll have to handle him on your own, whether you’re indoors or outdoors, with people around or not.”

Only then did the noblewoman realize the seriousness of the situation, and her face grew as serious as mine.

“It’s dreadful.”

“Indeed.”

Even though I had feelings for Edgar, dealing with him after he took the potion was overwhelming. If I were to receive unwanted attention from someone, it would be more than just unpleasant—it would be infuriating.

To think that a husband who was as annoying as wanting to tear him to pieces like dry jerky would cling to her. It would be nothing short of terrifying.

“Is there no way to deal with it?”

“Of course, I have prepared a countermeasure.”

I lifted a vial containing the antidote that I had successfully made myself after learning the formula from Orzen.

“I won’t charge you a lot. If you pay only half of the previous fee, I will provide you with it without reservation.”

The noblewoman’s face crumpled at the mention of the cost.

The noblewoman seemed to struggle with the decision to purchase the antidote separately after already paying a premium for the love potion. She took a long time to deliberate, but eventually decided not to accept my offer, responding with a slightly hesitant voice.

“Well, I suppose I can see how the potion works first and then decide whether to buy the antidote.”

“Yes. I will wait for the remaining payment after you have confirmed the effects of the potion.”

I clearly remembered her promise from a long time ago to pay double if her husband fell madly in love with her. I reiterated this important detail, and the noblewoman covered her mouth with her fan, muttering to herself.

Although she had been in a hurry to get the love potion and willing to pay extra at the time of the request, it seemed that now, with the potion in hand, she was reluctant to part with any more money.

“It will soon be difficult to descend as the sun sets, so perhaps you should be on your way. If you need to get in touch, just send a letter to the owl at the usual place.”

We were in a small house at the foot of the mountain. It was an old log cabin previously inhabited by a bearded old mountain keeper who had retired a few years ago. I occasionally used this place to meet with clients.

The cabin where Edgar and I lived was on a steep slope, making it difficult for clients’ carriages to reach it, and moreover, I felt awkward receiving money in front of Edgar.

“Oh, who’s that?”

As we were leaving the mountain keeper’s house, the noblewoman’s startled question made me look up in surprise. I was greeted by a familiar figure standing at the door.

“Why are you here?”

Edgar, whose face had turned pale, stammered as he tried to understand what was going on.

“Well… Chloe, I was worried because you weren’t home, and seeing an unfamiliar guest in these mountains made me curious about who it was.”

Even as he spoke, he awkwardly avoided making eye contact, looking around nervously. His refined and delicate features made even his clumsy attempts at conversation seem charming.

The noblewoman, whose long eyelashes fluttered dramatically, seemed to be fixated on Edgar. Seeing her unable to take her gaze away from him was oddly unsettling.
