Chapter 48
Instead of asking ‘Where’s the butler?’ he said ‘Why is no one here?’ It seemed his sensitive Holy Knight senses had immediately detected that the entire building was empty.
“I gave everyone a holiday and sent them away. Because you’re always worried that other people might find out about us doing… that.”
“…”
Upon hearing my words, Celesto’s Adam’s apple moved dramatically up and down.
“…Your clothes too. Did you put them on yourself?”
“What do you mean? I always dress myself.”
“You can’t tie ribbons.”
Saying that, Celesto pointed to the small ribbon crossing over my chest.
At that remark, I instinctively kicked Celesto’s leg. Just like in the old days.
“What are you talking about, that was ages ago? I learned how to tie ribbons a long time ago.”
“You always wore your academy uniform ribbons looking like a mess.”
But even after being kicked in the shin, Celesto’s expression didn’t change a bit.
With a body now so solid that my kicks couldn’t leave a scratch, Celesto looked down at me.
I avoided his gaze and muttered quietly.
“That was because I was busy studying.”
I sighed inwardly.
I felt like talking about the past with Celesto any further would make things feel strange. It seemed better to just talk about the curse, as usual.
“First, let’s go upstairs. I’ve prepared things.”
“…Prepared?”
“Something like that.”
I said, thinking of the waterproof sheet spread messily on the bed.
We went up the stairs together.
But then, Celesto, who had been following my lead, suddenly stopped walking.
I turned back while opening the door. He was standing two steps away from me, making a strange expression.
“Hey, this is…”
“What?”
“…Is this your room?”
From his awkwardly posed question, I could discern Celesto’s intention.
He was asking whether the place we were about to do ‘that’ was my bedroom.
I answered with the most brazen expression I could muster.
“Yeah. I told the servants, ‘I’m doing an important experiment alone, so vacate the house.’ If I used another room, it would be obvious that someone had come and gone.”
“…”
“…Are you thinking something weird?”
“No… No, I’m not.”
But Celesto’s voice as he said that was much more husky than before.
His reluctant reaction made me feel a bit annoyed. I spoke in a sharper voice than before.
“That’s all the reaction I get? I’m offering you the best room in this house, and you can’t even be grateful, let alone—”
At my words, Celesto’s brow furrowed fiercely. Then, as if he’d heard nonsense, he glared at me with wide, axe-like eyes.
Looking at him, I felt conflicted. No matter that he was a Holy Knight, I never thought my friend would be this talented at ruining a woman’s mood…
I let out a deep sigh and turned the doorknob.
“Sigh… It’s a good thing you’re a Holy Knight who never gets invited by women. If some poor woman had to put up with someone as dense as you and ended up flipping her lid, who would be responsible for her life?”
“…Still, you’re not exactly one to talk.”
Celesto gritted his teeth and retorted.
Ignoring him, I stepped into the bedroom.
Thanks to the maid’s thorough cleaning, my bedroom was neatly organized.
With only the bare minimum of decorations and furniture, it looked less like a lived-in space and more like an illustration from a book.
Perhaps that was why. The bed, lying messily in the middle of the room, stood out glaringly.
“…Did you get into a fight with the bed or something?”
Celesto asked a very sensible question.
“No. You know I stopped fighting with furniture a long time ago.”
Despite my firm denial, my friend, who remembered my days of obsessing over necromancy using furniture, only looked at me with eyes full of disbelief.
He used to smash the possessed furniture with me back then…
“Then why does the bed look like that?”
“Well, um… I found out about something called a waterproof sheet.”
“…Waterproof, what?”
