Chapter 65
‘Why do things I’m certain won’t happen always end up happening?’
In his hazy consciousness, Celesto thought.
‘Of all things, it had to turn out like this…’
As if suppressing the seething heat, he swallowed a dry gulp.
But his thirst wasn’t quenched in the slightest. Instead, it only boiled and bubbled beneath his lower abdomen.
Gritting his teeth, Celesto swung his sword wide. The black blood on the blade burned away in holy power, disappearing like smoke.
“Damn… This is just making it worse.”
Celesto’s brow furrowed mercilessly.
Originally, using holy power like this used to alleviate the curse’s symptoms, at least a little.
Come to think of it, that was only natural. Holy power and curses were opposing forces.
No matter how strong a curse, it was only natural that its intensity would wane when holy power surged.
That he hadn’t realized this until Roarna told him
‘By the same logic, I should have expected that using holy power in a situation like this would be poison.’
Celesto let out a rough breath.
Was it because he was more exhausted than usual? The more he consumed holy power, the stronger the curse became instead.
‘Damn it, if only a whole other group hadn’t suddenly appeared.’
Celesto glanced at the corpses of the monsters lying around him.
Since being cursed in the old chapel basement, Celesto had never once returned to the Temple Knights’ holy warfront.
It couldn’t be helped.
The Temple Knights were a unit that only the most select Holy Knights could join. Naturally, they were full of monsters who were all exceptionally skilled.
It was nearly impossible to hide the fact that he was cursed from such a group of human weapons.
‘Perhaps someone might have noticed even before I entered the warfront.’
Celesto sheathed his sword.
In fact, if anyone were to witness this scene, they would call Celesto himself a monster worthy of the Temple Knights’ name.
Not only had he single-handedly dealt with the large monster that had been blocking the road, but also the horde of monsters that had come down the mountain drawn by the scent of blood.
Even after such an intense battle, Celesto appeared perfectly fine, as if he had just been out for a walk.
At least on the outside.
“Haah…”
Celesto sighed.
Of course, that wasn’t enough to quell the desire sprouting in his lower abdomen.
Nor would it allow him to hold out until he reached the 9th floor of the academy research building.
Celesto looked down at his left hand.
In his hand was an empty glass vial. One of the rations he had received before heading out on the subjugation.
A butterfly used for urgent communication. To think he was using it to summon a woman.
‘It’s not like I’m Leocel.’
Celesto smiled bitterly.
Mustering his strength, he started heading back toward the village.
For a Holy Knight to relieve his burning lust, the outskirts where monsters roamed would probably be safer. Because few people ventured there due to its dangerous reputation.
But he didn’t want to make Roarna come all the way out here.
‘Idiot bastard.’
Celesto calmly assessed himself.
Roarna was a woman who explored everything forbidden by human civilization. She might look a bit frail on the surface.
And yet he didn’t want to put her in even the slightest danger.
‘No matter how I think about it, it’s serious.’
Celesto frowned.
After visiting Roarna’s townhouse a few days ago, Celesto stopped deceiving himself.
It didn’t seem to have any point anymore.
He likes Roarna. Probably from the day they reunited after five years.
‘Or maybe even before that.’
Celesto let out a long sigh. He felt as if his already difficult steps had grown heavier.
He had realized something a few days ago. What it meant to ‘see someone as a woman.’
It wasn’t strange. How could someone who didn’t even know how to m********e know how to see another person as the opposite s*x?
