“Your Grace!”

As he regained his senses, he found Eli in front of him.

Where is Sebelia?

Dehart’s eyes opened wide. He stood up abruptly with a pale face, but after days without eating, his body gave way and collapsed.

“Be careful!”

Eli grabbed his shoulder in surprise. Dehart pushed him away in a daze. In the process, the cross necklace he was holding fell to the floor with a soft thud.

As the necklace rolled across the carpet, Dehart finally remembered what had happened.

“Ah.”

He groaned, holding his head. It had been two days since he had gotten the necklace back from Sebelia.

When she asked if he had ever properly apologized—he had been struck by a huge shock, and then everything went blank. By the time he regained consciousness, he was on his way back to his room, supported by Eli and Watts.

“Damn.”

Two days had passed, and Dehart still hadn’t seen Sebelia. He couldn’t bring himself to. Shame and self-loathing filled him up to his throat. His stomach churned, and he felt like tears were about to burst from his eyes.

How could I be this selfish and stupid?

He had mistakenly thought that a vague apology would be enough to ask for her forgiveness. He had ignored the fact that he had hurt her with his actions, deceiving her and dismissing the wrongs he had done.

Instead, intoxicated by his own feelings, he had thrown out a general apology and hoped she would just accept him.

I guess it came out too easily.

The lie about memory loss, paired with a rushed apology, was nothing more than another act of deceit and contempt toward Sebelia.

“Ha.”

It felt like swallowing sharp thorns. Despite not knowing any shame, Dehart gave a mocking laugh as the cold scorn toward himself flowed out hollowly.

I didn’t even realize.

He had mistaken her anger for concern. Every time her furious blue eyes met his, he had become intoxicated by the strange feeling, dreaming a futile dream. He hadn’t even realized he didn’t deserve it.

It was when Dehart finally collapsed on the couch that a single knight entered the office with hurried steps. Instead of Dehart, who was too exhausted to open his eyes, Eli took the two letters from the knight.

“Why not just send one letter… this is…”

Eli sighed as he examined the envelopes. One was from five days ago, and the other two days ago. That wasn’t the problem. The latter had a red seal marked as urgent mail.

It was clear that something urgent had happened after the first letter was sent.

“Your Grace, please take a moment.”

“…”

“This is a letter from Sir Ryan. It seems like it’s related to the case of Lord Limms and Lady Flora. It seems it has been wrapped up.”

“Give it to me.”

Dehart extended his hand, sitting up with one arm. Eli hesitated, unknowingly startled by the murderous aura emanating from him.

Dehart ripped open the two envelopes in one go. The first letter was relatively long, but since it contained expected content, he skimmed through it quickly. The issue was with the second one.

The letter, stamped with the urgent seal, was brief—only a few lines—but Dehart read it several times from start to finish with intensity.

His eyes became chilling as he muttered under his breath.

“…Silas Wheddon.”

The unfamiliar name left his lips before they tightly pressed together in a grimace. The tense atmosphere caused Eli to ask without thinking.

“Silas Wheddon? Isn’t he the late Duchess’s father? Why is he mentioned in Sir Ryan’s letter?”

“Read it yourself.”

With a bitter laugh, Dehart tossed the letter aside. Eli quickly grabbed the paper out of the air and read its contents. His dull brown eyes widened in shock.

“What kind of nonsense is this?”

“Exactly what I was thinking.”

“To say that he would stay at Hillend Hall to manage the late Duchess’s tomb, with no one left to take care of it… what on earth is this guy thinking?”

It felt like someone had rudely inserted themselves into a carefully arranged dinner table. It wasn’t enough to ruin the plans, but it still felt off to leave it unchecked.

“Well, Marquis Limms could act as a witness to the illegal circumstances of taking over the tower with force and rescuing the Lash family.”

Eli spoke with a calmer expression.

Dehart crossed his arms, neither agreeing nor disagreeing with Eli’s words.

This was not just a straightforward plan to remove Lims and imprison Flora.

“As expected, there was no solid justification to keep the Lash family detained for much longer.”

Dehart closed his eyes at Eli’s words. It was true.

The reason Dehart detained Gren and Lash was under the suspicion of an assassination attempt on Sebelia.

However, there was no concrete evidence except for the unissued assassination request, and as a result, there had been growing dissatisfaction within the family and among outsiders.

So, Dehart and Ryan devised a plan.
