‘Use Limm’s arrogance to make him disregard procedures and break into Hillend Hall, extracting the Lash family.’

Although the head of the household had detained them on questionable grounds, the appearance of following proper procedures was maintained. But Limms wasn’t one to care about formalities.

His arrogant, reckless nature was clear from the very moment he forced his way into Hillend Hall.

“I hear Lord Limms has turned toward his territory after hearing the news. He’s probably bringing in the force needed to neutralize Hillend Hall and extract the Lash family. We just need to wait here.”

Limms, likely celebrating his spoils from the black market, would have been furious when he learned that Ryan had betrayed him.

“Shall we send a reply telling Marquis Wheddon to leave things as they are, Your Grace?”

Eli, still holding the letter, turned toward Dehart, who had been silent. Suddenly, Dehart’s eyes snapped open. In the shadows under his prominent brows, his golden eyes burned fiercely—hot and intense like a self-consuming flame.

“Why does she remain so clueless?”

“Your Grace?”

Eli, who was picking out the letter, tilted his head confused by the sudden outburst. However, Dehart didn’t seem to hear him. His glowing golden eyes were fixed somewhere in the air, as though lost in thought.

“Why didn’t she go to him from the beginning?”

“Excuse me, Your Grace?”

Eli felt his unease growing as he tried to approach. Just a moment ago, Dehart had been slumped and lifeless, but now he shot up with incredible intensity.

“Eli Hursfield.”

“Y-Yes!”

“Immediately send someone to the center and gather all information about Marquis Wheddon’s family for the past thirty years—everything, from the maids to the lord himself. I want all the little details, relationships, rumors, gossip—everything.”

“What?”

It was getting harder to understand with each word.

But as Dehart’s sharp gaze fixed on him, Eli knew better than to question it. Despite his confusion, he lowered his head.

At least this didn’t come from a fit of delirium.

“I’ll carry it out immediately.”

“Good. And especially… focus on finding out how Sebelia has been living in the mansion.”

Eli briefly furrowed his brows but obeyed the command without protest.

Maybe he hasn’t completely given up on her yet.

As Eli left the office, he clicked his tongue. After having Bella, who resembled Sebelia, by his side, he thought the rumors about the late Duchess had died down.

But it seemed that he hadn’t completely forgotten.

At least he’s no longer claiming she was unjustly murdered, so that’s a relief.

This progress was already significant up to this point.

Shaking his head, Eli began to think about who to send as an agent to the center.

Meanwhile, Dehart, who was left in the office, knelt on the floor, staring endlessly at the fallen silver cross with eyes that he couldn’t even shed a tear.

“Please, please. It can’t be true.”

His voice emerged from his throat croaky and hoarse. His dry eyes, deprived of sleep, screamed in agony. But he couldn’t rest for even a moment.

It was the horrific thoughts that plagued his mind.

Why? Why did you run away, pretending to be dead, but never go to your family?

Sebelia Wheddon was the beloved youngest child of the Wheddon family. So precious that she was almost kept hidden like a treasure. She was raised and protected so that the harsh world would never touch her delicate cheeks.

That was the Sebelia Wheddon the world knew, and it was the only past Dehart knew about her. Even though she had cut ties with him after betraying him on her father’s orders, for over twenty years, she had grown up surrounded by love.

Naturally, after leaving the North, she should have sought out her blood relatives.

Whether it was Marquis Wheddon or her siblings, or even distant relatives… She should never have hidden herself in this small town alone while suffering from a rare illness.

“Ah, Bella. Please…!”

But instead, she crossed the empire alone. As if her family didn’t even exist in her mind, relying solely on her own strength.

And that was a terrifying reality that shattered the thoughts Dehart had clung to for so long.

[This, this is slander. I would never do such a thing.]

Sebelia might not have even realized she was being used by her father. Perhaps she truly didn’t know…

[Why would I do such a thing? Dehart, think about it. I would never do that to you.]

Dehart bit down on his lips so hard that they bled, feeling a scream, nearly burst from his lips.

Drip, drip—red blood fell onto the cross he held tightly.
