Chapter 96
“The dignity of a space is proportional to the dignity of the person occupying it. Do I even have to teach you even these basics?”
Jung Yeo-jin spoke with a look of contempt.
“Still, we’re family now. I thought I should at least see your face. Since you never come out.”
Using the excuse of adapting to work, Ga-eun had not yet participated in any public activities as a member of the Hwanhee Group’s leading family.
It was Si-heon’s decision.
He said he would give her the go-ahead once he determined she was ready after observing the situation.
“I’m still in the process of adjusting to my duties.”
Watching Ga-eun bow her head politely, Jung Yeo-jin made an expression of utter disbelief.
Is she really telling me she’s busy as the Acting Director of Hwanhee Museum?
How dare she, right in front of me?
‘Ju-yeon was right.’
She had said Gye Ga-eun was a cunning woman who pretended to care about her less attractive older sister while ruthlessly putting her down.
That she was a genius at elegantly serving others poison while maintaining a dignified appearance.
Apparently, Gye Ga-eun’s own sister had said this.
What kind of life must she have led for her own sister to say such things?
“You must be pleased.”
At the malice-filled voice, Ga-eun took a small, careful breath so Jung Yeo-jin wouldn’t notice.
“You probably never imagined it in your life. That your name would be engraved on a nameplate on the Hwanhee Museum Director’s desk.”
Jung Yeo-jin looked down at her well-manicured nails, twirling the wedding ring on her left ring finger as she continued speaking casually.
“Neither did I. That someone else’s name would be engraved on a nameplate on the Hwanhee Museum Director’s desk.”
Jung Yeo-jin observed Ga-eun sitting picture-perfect with her hands folded.
“I’ll inherit SJ International within a few years. My family owns SJ Group, ranked within the top 30 corporations. Unlike our noble Chief Director’s family background. What company was it again?”
“Yuhan General Trading Company.”
“Ah yes, that one. You must be pleased. I heard their stock prices rose significantly after this marriage. I wonder who will benefit next time.”
While Jung Yeo-jin probably meant to belittle her,
Disparaging Yuhan General Trading Company wasn’t much of an insult to Ga-eun. If anything, quite the opposite.
The same went for her insinuations about “this marriage” and “next time’s benefits,” implying their inevitable separation.
“You must know. Many people are eyeing that position. Director Kwon, my brother-in-law, is just so charming. Even now, so many people ask me to put in a good word for them. It’s almost bothersome.”
Ga-eun wasn’t upset. If anything, she found it curious how they knew.
‘I wonder if others think the same way.’
That she and he were destined to break apart someday.
Well, that would make the divorce announcement less shocking then.
But Ga-eun quickly mocked herself.
These certainly weren’t thoughts befitting a newly married woman.
‘She’s… laughing?’
Jung Yeo-jin watched in disbelief as Ga-eun lowered her head with a small smile.
Ga-eun had been sneering at herself, but Jung Yeo-jin had no way of knowing that.
“I knew you were different… but you’re far more shameless than I expected. Your upbringing is as poor as I thought.”
Si-heon had told her not to bow to anyone while living as his wife. Because it directly reflected on his pride.
Ga-eun silently met Jung Yeo-jin’s eyes.
You don’t need to do this. You don’t need to be so desperate – this position will soon be yours anyway.
Whatever way Jung Yeo-jin interpreted that gaze, just as her face flushed red and she was about to speak-
Her phone vibrated in her handbag. It was her husband. There were already two missed calls.
“It’s me.”
[I heard you didn’t come to work! Are you at the museum?]
“How did you know?”
[Is that really the issue right now? Kwon Si-heon, that bastard, just tore me apart in the meeting!]
“What do you mean?”
[It means I messed with his wife. You went to see that woman, didn’t you?]
Jung Yeo-jin glared at Ga-eun with murderous intent.
[I was completely humiliated in front of not just the executives, but all the employees at today’s general meeting. I’ve never been so embarrassed in my life.]
“How could he…”
[I told you to lay low while Kwon Si-heon is protecting his wife! That it wasn’t time yet! Get out of there now, before this blows back on you too!]
After ending the call, Jung Yeo-jin shot up from her seat.
“I’ll see you at next week’s Jinri Association meeting.”
Jinri Association…?
“You won’t be able to hide behind Director Kwon then, remember that.”
As Jung Yeo-jin was about to leave the director’s office, she grabbed the doorknob but suddenly turned around.
“Be careful. The women in the Jinri Association come from families just as formidable as mine. Even Kwon Si-heon won’t be able to protect you there.”
