Chapter 181

Emilia meant her words. She didn’t want to hurt anyone.
She hadn’t even wanted to become a knight in the first place.
She had walked the path believing it was the right one, as her father had decided.
“Is there anything good about a blood-soaked storm in this estate?”
“…Are you prepared for this?”
“Prepared?”
Emilia raised the dagger and placed it against her wrist.
Without hesitation, she sliced it. Red blood dripped to the floor.
“…!”
Kartho’s eyes widened in shock. Emilia didn’t retreat.
“If I waste any more time, I’ll die here without leaving the Duke’s estate. Calling for a doctor won’t help.”
“Madam!”
“I’ll cut my throat next.”
Kartho stepped back.
“…Go then. But the other knights will try to stop you.”
Emilia walked past Kartho.
Clutching the dagger tightly, she descended to the first floor.
“Stop her! Don’t let her leave…”
“Every time you try to stop me, this blade will leave a mark on my body.”
Those who saw Emilia bleeding as she descended hesitated.
“My goodness, Emilia!”
Then, from behind, Boestin’s voice echoed.
Emilia slowly turned her head.
“…What is this…? No, what’s all this commotion? There’s blood…”
“Miss Boestin, stop right there.”
Emilia spoke, warning her.
“I knew something would happen… Move out of the way!”
Boestin muttered and grabbed the railing, shouting at the knights.
“The Duke told us to guard, not to wound her. Can you handle it?”
“But…”
“We have a duty to follow orders! If Madam leaves the Duke’s estate, we’re as good as dead.”
The knight shook his head, blocking the door. With their swords raised, it was clear they wouldn’t back down.
Emilia adjusted her grip on the dagger. She had to escape before he arrived.
Though she didn’t want to spill anyone’s blood, if she let more blood flow from her own body, the baby might be in danger.
Emilia took a deep breath, preparing to face the knights. For the first time, she was thankful that she had learned swordsmanship.
“Better to escape alive than die in the Duke’s estate! You idiots!”
Boestin shouted in frustration.
“But if he find out we just let her go…”
Emilia walked toward the knight. She held the re-gripped dagger and asked,
“Tell me where you want it.”
“…What?”
“Your arms or legs, I suppose.”
As Emilia raised the dagger high, the knight instinctively raised his sword to block it.
“Tell them you got hurt trying to stop me. It’ll hurt, but…”
“AAAH!”
Emilia sliced through the knight’s flesh. The startled knights backed away. With a blank expression, she wounded the knights who were guarding the door.
“Ugh!”
“Say the Duchess went mad and caused a scene, threatening to kill herself, so you couldn’t stop her.”
Just as Emilia was about to leave the estate,
“Madam!”
She heard Dell’s voice from behind. Dell was carrying a small bundle.
“Please, take me with you!”
Dell’s face was a mess from crying, and her hands, holding the bundle, were trembling.
“Dell, you don’t know what will happen if we leave here.”
“…Madam, if you go, I’ll die anyway.”
Emilia recalled the events from before. Yes, that’s how it was. He had always been careless with the lives of others.
Emilia nodded lightly. Dell quickly approached.
As they opened the door and stepped outside, the rain was coming down hard. It was the perfect day to erase any trace.
“Emilia!”
Boestin approached and handed her something.
“I thought you might need this.”
Emilia looked at the note placed in her palm.
“Madam, we must go quickly!”
Dell handed Emilia a cloak. Once Emilia draped it over her shoulders, she walked into the rain.
With each step, the knot in her chest seemed to loosen.
She just needed to escape and disappear.
“Madam… If we take the carriage, we’ll be caught right away.”
“That’s exactly why we’re using it.”
Emilia climbed into the Duke’s carriage. Instead of the coachman, she began driving it herself.
“Hold on tight, don’t fall off.”
Dell, sitting next to the coachman’s seat, nodded and gripped the handle tightly.
As Emilia pulled the reins, the carriage began moving.
The carriage sped through the rain, and Dell stared ahead, looking terrified
“Ma, Madam, where are we going now?”
The carriage moved along a path through the woods, not toward the village. Dell asked with fear. Emilia kept her gaze fixed ahead.
“Dell. Do you trust me?”
“…What? Madam! If we keep going, we’ll fall off the cliff!”
“I asked if you trust me.”
“I have no one but you, Madam! What… what are you going to do?”
Dell’s face turned pale, and she trembled. If they kept going, the carriage would fall off the cliff.
“Madam! Aaaahhh!”
Dell screamed.
Somewhere no one could find them, somewhere no one would expect.
The rain fell relentlessly, hiding their tracks.
