Chapter 101
But even a diamond-hard resolve couldn’t hurry the sun. As dusk bled across the sky, Polyxene’s skin grew feverish, her thighs pressing together in restless frustration. She was made for conquest—one of Jupiter Castle’s most coveted jewels, a woman whose every step made c***s stiffen and wives clutch their husbands tighter. When she bent to pluck a flower in the gardens, men drooled. When she licked wine from her fingers, they ached.
Yet tonight, Cassis’s gaze slid over her like she was just another pretty trinket.
The other court women circled like vultures, their giggles sharp as knives.
“Hehehe.”
“Oh? Cat got your tongue? Do share.”
“Mmm, well… Poly—” A choked cough. “—cough! cough!”
Polyxene ’s ears twitched—taunting me? Rage burned through her, molten and sweet. If only I’d been born with Aiel’s blood… Her teeth sank into her lower lip. I’d have Cassis on his knees, begging to bury himself inside me, and none of these b*****s could stop me.
However, there was no use getting angry here, and it would only leave a bad impression on Cassis, who was scanning the agora with indifferent eyes. At times like this, she somewhat missed Lya, who followed her around like a shadow. Lya would always appropriately humor whatever she said, but there was nothing to be done about that child’s presumptuous behavior.
‘By the way, when will His Majesty leave this place…?’ Polyxene , who couldn’t miss this Aika Festival, had firmly secured a promise from Iel after pestering her. Given Cassis’s temperament, it was obvious that he wouldn’t stay long after the festival began, and recently, they said he hardly ever left the Hall of Glory. So Iel had promised to help the two of them meet by watching for a gap when he returned.
Suddenly, anxiety surged. While she was well aware that Cassis enjoyed quiet meditation, there was no need to shut himself up inside the Hall to do it. Why had he barely taken walks lately? If the nymph had died, it would be better to just make a brief announcement about it…
Well, it might not have been announced because it wasn’t important. But why would His Majesty shut himself indoors in this beautiful spring?
She hadn’t managed to ask Iel about that nymph. Honestly, it would be a lie to say she wasn’t curious, but out of pride, she pretended not to know the name.
‘Evelyn… that sounds quite elegant. More noble-like than me. No, Polyxene . Are you crazy? Get a grip. Being conscious of others means you’re losing.’
As she was shaking her head vigorously, the elves in charge of the festival approached Cassis and said something to him. From here, she couldn’t hear what they were whispering. Polyxene ‘s shoulders lurched forward as she tried to read their lips with her brows tightly furrowed.
“Excuse me, Polyxene ? I need to pass through.”
“You…!”
This is infuriating. Seeing that face, I felt even more betrayed because it was an elf who had trained as a border guard with me. The name… Ah, what does it matter? While I was seething at the thought that such a lowly being dared to strike me, that elf had already moved in front of Cassis and was acting sly.
“Your Majesty! I was merely doing my duty as a border guard, yet you welcome me so grandly. Thank you.”
“Me too!”
“Will Your Majesty be attending the banquet this evening?”
‘What are they saying now? Do they think they can interfere with me and get away with it?’
This was the deflating sound of Polyxene, who had been persistently guarding this spot waiting for Cassis’s absence. It seemed like a ploy to cunningly touch the king’s gentle heart. Ah, no. You need to get up and leave now. That’s the only way for the secret meeting that brother Iel promised me to succeed!
Fortunately, Polyxene’s prayer reached its mark. Cassis finally opened his mouth as he looked at the women huddled before him.
“Since many people are scattered about, there will be no banquet specially called for today. How could I interrupt everyone’s enjoyable time?”
“All we need is Your Majesty’s presence, isn’t that right? What do you think, perhaps…”
My throat tightened as I listened to their scheme, which I had thought was insignificant. What if the king’s mind changes? As Polyxene firmly believed that Cassis was subtly sexually excited, she couldn’t just remain still. Just as Polyxene took a step forward, Cassis exquisitely rose as if avoiding her.
“Find your own partners and enjoy your time. I shall be on my way now.”
“Your Majesty!”
“Ah, Your Majesty…”
Despite their desperate calls, Cassis moved away. There was no one who could stop him by clinging to his arm like seaweed. At least not here.
‘Good, I need to hurry and prepare!’
Polyxene gulped down her saliva and quickly disappeared along the winding path behind the bushes, leaving behind those fools who were feeling disappointed. Since it was in the opposite direction of where Cassis was going, the chattering women merely glanced back but didn’t follow. Everything was proceeding according to plan.
